So I used to drive my lancer in neutral down hills etc and I would see my mpgs go way up. I heard that shifting it into N though, will damage the gears. With that being said, the CVT has "no gears" so how could it be damaged?
The only thing that concerned me was when I placed it back into drive.... the RPMS would go from under 1k to something way higher-depending on how fast i was in neutral. Should I just rev my RPMs then place it into drive? or is it just a bad idea to begin with.
Opinions and information are welcome

it actually uses less gas to leave it in gear
when ur in gear, ur tires are keeping the engine speed up
when u take it out of gear, the engine is using fuel to keep its rpms up @ idle speed so it doesnt stall out

yeah driving in neutral is just going to use more gas and way more wear and tear on the tranny if you keep shifting out of drive while your moving. not to mention it is illeagal to roll in neutral in a lot of states and causes more wear on the brakes due to no engine braking.
