2008 Lancer shift point

I have been having some troubles finding the perfect shift point for this car , from first to second at redline the car drops rpms like crazy so i tried shifting at 6k still a big drop , i tried 5 k and it seemed to be alot better , so far it seems that 5 k is a good shift point , now all other gears seem to shift fine from the 5.5-6k mark but its the first to second that seems kinda messed up , anyone have any tips on proper shift times in this car?

you can certainly shift real fast but the tranny and engine need to catch up, that seems to be where the delay is, just another reason why i want an evoX

It doesnt matter what RPM you shift at atleast thats what i noticed i usually shift at 3K rpm when iam just cruising around... i havent redlined yet my car is new i need to break it in. Also for better smoother shift you have to be pretty goot at knowing where the clutch engages. I am trying to get rev matching down i cant get the blip the throttle part.

lol...u will after u break the car in..i was really hesitant myself at messin around tyrin to find it, but after a while, ull jus be like **** it and start messin round witout worries..i started practicin my heel toe action n its a btich but it did get me to more freely mess around with the blip thorttle...when i hit redline in first i give the rpms some time to drop for a smooth engagement..after 1st to 2nd gear..the rest r pretty pretty easy when hitting redline n shiftin to next gear..i usually let it drop about 1-1.5k n get smooth engagement..but 4th to 5th u have to do it faster. if ur racing or doin a canyon run dont worry about rpms jus redline and drop that baby

this is what ive ntoiced jus cruisin around shiftin at 3k
1st to 2nd- - 1k drop
2nd to 3rd- 800k drop
3rd to 4th - like 900-1k drop
4th to 5th - about 500k drop..

id jus say do some canyon runs or something of the sort and ull get a good feel for it, dont worry bout messin nething up..as long as ur within a close range while ur learning

when im cruising its fine i usually shift at the 3-3.5 k mark , but im talking about if i wanna 1/4mile or something for acceleration whats the best shift point, like hondas are redline cars but i dont think the lancer is when i shift at redline the car drops a good 1.5 rpms easy and then lags in the start of second gear where as at 5 k it doesent as bad

I don't know if you're using auto stick/paddle shifters or if you're completely manual but I was giving this question some thought and asking a few people and tinkering around in my own car... When I asked a friend what he does at the track he said that he redlines first to second in his mazda... he says that the higher your rpms are when you leave first gear to second the more likely you are to stay 4250rpm power band in my ES or 4100rpm power band in your GTS... After talking to him about that I tried it out on my way home and as long as I keep the rpms above 4000 I find the car just moves right into second quick... Just keep your foot heavy on the gas into second (as soon as the gear grabs just step on it)... Actually it's not 4100rpm and 4250rpm both cars are 6000rpm they hit peak hp...

I'm sure we all notice the pull around ~3k rpms, well if you redline when you upshift your rpms will stay > then ~3k which will keep you above that "bpgging" point that plague our cars. Other then that, all dyno graphs that I have seen show a drop in power past ~5k. But that is normal... Best way to find a good shifting points is to practice!

actually from what i hear its easier with the short shifter, i cant do it at all so the next thing on my list is the short shifter , i have never gotten the car to do it from 1-2 but 2-3 and all others i have , i grinded 3 times in a row a couple weeks ago trying it in the middle of a intersection and i know everyone was laughing at me which i dont blame em

well when i redline first and try to shift hella fast to 2nd its a ***** if i dont literally try to break the damn shifter off...the weighted knob is sposed to help...my knob is jus a sphere which isnt a great idea for quick shiftin like that..but w.e, ive gone past the point of worrying about damaging/breakin stuff on this car so im not concerned

hmm i dont seem to have that problem of the RPMs dropping too low when i redline 1st gear

however it does drop lower than the rest of the gears cuz of the gear ratios, but it's usually above 4000rpmor higher @ second gear when i redline first

i like rip it into gear though, dun take my foot entirely off the throttle just touching it just a tad when im switching and i just switch as fast as i can...havnt grinded but i've heard my tires chirp (stock tires...my falkens dont really chirp when i do that) when i go from 1st to second

i pretty much have to try to break the shifter to power shift and it still doesent do it , maybe has something to do with the stock shifter or my shift knob , absolute you have no problems doing this?
