C-V Shaft Removal

I'm new here and I have just run into trouble with either the front Driver-side wheel bearing and or the upper C-V joint, which is spitting out grease. There is a rubbing noise, not quite a howl, more like a whooshing noise from this area while the car is in motion and is getting progressively louder. This is a 2002 Lancer ES 2.0 . My question is how do you remove the C-V Shaft or 1/2- shaft as it is sometimes called, and are there any special tools needed to deal with the lower ball joint and the sway bar? Please help me 'cause I'm stumped! Thanks...

Jack the car up, remove the wheel, remove the axle nut, remove the caliper (leave the brake line attached), disconnect the two 19mm strut bolts. You can now tilt the spindle toward you and remove the axle from the hub. You can then remove the axle from the transmission. Take a large flathead screwdriver or pry bar and place it between the trans and inner CV. Then pop it out. Be sure to have a drain pan below as the transmission will drain once the axle has been removed from the trans. Reverse steps for installation and remember to refill the trans with fresh fluid.

^ what he said. Add a pipe to the prybar to get more leverage. I almost busted my *** doing it on my friend's car.

Was just about to ask the same question but rather on how to get the inner joint out of the tranny. Was prying at it but it didn't budge. I guess i'll just have to use more muscle or something. Thanks!

to the OP, if muscle and leverage don't work, take ur flathead, hammer it into the inner cv to create space, and pry it till it seems to move a bit, turn the axle, repeat and repeat until it pops off. it worked for me. but take their advice on the pan.... i kinda forgot and got tranny fluid all over the floor hahaha. thanks all for the help =)
