Help! Can't open hood.

Hi everyone, I'm new on this board and recently purchased a used 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer which I can't get the hood to open. I tried the hood release handle inside the car and pulled on it too hard and broke it. I also tried pulling the cable with some pliers and still can get the hood to pop. The worst part is that my battery died on me too so I can't drive it to the dealer to get the cable and release handle fix and installed. Does anyone know a way that I could get the hood to pop without have to dismantle the car? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, the ball is still on the cable. The plastic piece that holds the ball broke and I'm pulling on the cable with a pair of pliers but the hood still won't pop. I don't know what else to do. Got any ideas?

i dont remember if there is a screw holding it in, but you can try pushing the plastic grill that has the emblem on it in. that would give you a tiny bit of access to the mechanism to pop it open. the other way would be to push the bottom one in, a lot harder to reach the mechanism, but worth a shot.

While you are pulling on the cable have some one push down on the hood and then pull up. Sometimes the pressure of the hood holds the latch closed. You might have to pull up pretty hard on the hood. Otherwise your going to have to access the latch some how and open it manualy.
