Help: Replace O2 Sensor

Hi, I have a 2008 2.0L Lancer. Is it easy to replace the FIRST (before cat) o2 sensor? I didn't go right underneath the car, I did a quick oil change, but it was too cold out to look around for the sensor. I have about 145 000 km on it, so I think I'll get some more mileage and performance replacing the sensor.

Is it accessible from the bottom of the car or in the engine bay? Is there cross-members or covers that have to be removed in order to get to it?

Why hasn't anyone done a how to on this yet? COME ON PEOPLE lol.

The reason no one has done it is because it isn't needed if their are no codes being thrown.

ok, so what if I had a code? Now what?

Popular Mechanics says this:

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...enance/4219927

It's always the upstream sensor ("Bank 1, Sensor 1") that the powertrain management system pays attention to in order to fine-tune the proper 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio (aka lambda). Lambda is the Greek character used to designate that perfect stoichiometric ratio. And although the modern oxygen sensor has a 100,000-mile life expectancy, when it gets old and lazy you'll begin to notice a drop in fuel economy. More extreme cases of malfunction will lead to driveability issues and, eventually, to an illuminated Check Engine light when the frequency of the sensor's signal slows to a crawl.

if you want to replace that sensor, youll have to either:

a. take to the dealer (expensive)

b. find a 4 wire sensor and splice it in yourself. there is no connector that you can just unplug to release the O2 sensor.

You have 2 sensors:

Sensor 1 is the primary O2 (for adjusting mixture).
Sensor 2 is the one after the cat - for measuring cat efficiency.
