06 lancer es lighting gone

Hey every and thanks for the help in advance! I'm having that hardest time figuring out whats going on with my car.

Anyways here is the story. The instrument panel completely stopped working (gauges wouldn't move, however the lighting worked in the car. I went to my local wreckers to grab a new instrument panel. I then proceeded to install it.

Now what happening is all the lights are not working. I cannot drive in the dark knowing my speed. However my cruise control, srs, airbag, seat belt lights are on and work.

My gear selected is not lighting up and my lighter works, but not the bulb that lights the ring.

These are the things I have done to try and see what was going on.

- Searched through the forums to see if any one else had same issue. Attempts to use their fixes did not work.
- Checked the connectors on the instrument panel
- Replaced every single fuse in the car. EVERY single fuse.
- Checked wiring harness
- Made sure dimmer switch is on high
- Left the battery out for an hour
- Replaced the dimmer switch with a new one
- placed old instrument panel back in and now has no lights.
- OBD2 scan with no codes or pending codes

If anyone has any more suggestions please let me know

Try changing the red ecu under the fuse box. Really I think its a big relay but it says its a ecu. That controls lighting and stuff. I had to bend one of the pins to turn my drl off.

Here's a pic of the ecu I'm talking about. Since you've checked everything else out it could be the ecu went bad? Its worth a shot.

If I want to pick up a new one, will that mess anything up? My friend and I had issues getting the lancer on at one point during the change of everything. We literally disconnected everything and did each harness one by one through the service manual someone uploaded on here.

Also with that pin, how bendy is it? If I try to bend it back would it break?

BTW thanks for the fast reply .

That pin has a little bit of bend to it. I left it there in case I sell my lancer and put it back to stock. I do drive with my headlights on even during the day though. I would just buy a used one and see if it fixed your problem. Its pretty rare that they go out.

Maybe you should check that your wires are grounded? The inside fuse panel has a ground next it. Make sure those wires are grounded. That could also give you problems.

Ive checked like everything. I made sure all cables were pushed in. Are you talking about the one inside the car?

What happened is when we finished connecting everything, I had my keys on the accessory position and we connected the battery forgetting about the keys. I feel like I shorted something but I literally went though every single fuse.

So I tried what you posted and no change. Still the "check lights" show, however the dash will not show anything.

You already replaced the red ecu under the hood of the car? The one by the fuses?

Not at the moment, I have to run to the wreckers tomorrow. Think replacing the ECU will fix all my lighting issues? Are there any other fuses I could be not looking at?

Well I know that ecu controls the day time running lights (drl) so I would assume it controls other lighting as well.

So I went to the wreckers and bought a close to new ECU from a 2004 with 65000 kms. I put it in and aboslutly nothing. I went to the ground wire by the fuse box and scraped the metal to make sure it was connected. I also wirebrushed the battery posts. I turned the car on to make sure the lights in the back are working and they work. I know that in some form, there connected to the lights inside.

My last guess is either I messed up a wireing harness, or something is disconnected that I am not realising.

I also cannot run my car without the daylights on as it is illeage here, so I pushed the pin back. DLR is now running again.

If you have any suggestion to try let me know.

AND IT IS FIXED!!!!

So the fuse the the left of 22-23 (the yellow thing) kept blowing. I replaced them about 3 times. This time, the fuses were testing okay, but visially they looked bad. I then replaced them with a 10 fuse instead of the factory 7.5. They now work!!~~!~!~

Thanks everyone for the help!

Good to hear you fixed it. Thanks for updating too. Kind of annoying when people don't share their fix. Lol
