P0442 Check Engine Code
P0442 Check Engine Code
Just bought a 2004 Lancer OZ Rally, has 167000km, it's now the second Lancer I have (I have an 03 Lancer OZ Rally) and before I get it home I am looking for some information on the code it is throwing.
Code is P0442, anyone had this code, rectified it easily/ cheaply- could it simply be the gas cap? When I get it home, I will delete the code, change the gas cap and take it for a drive.
I had a P0456 showing up on the 03 Lancer and replaced a small white plastic valve on top of the fuel tank, and am hoping to avoid that with this car.

I have both of these codes. I haven't gotten rid of it (other then erasing it) but things I've found out are.
I had a crack in my flex pipe so I fixed that and I still have the code, I've changed the gas cap with an OEM one, still have the code, I've been told it could be a vacuum line (which is a *****) but the best way I have found out to check to see if its a leak in your exhaust is get a friend and so a seafoam clean on it, while you (or your friend) are putting the sea foam in the vacuum line, look under the car and see if you see any smoke coming out. thats the only thing I can suggest, if that doesn't work, try to get a hold of a smoke machine.

The check valve is located on top of the fuel tank right? anyone have a part number?
Changed gas cap and fuel filler neck (gas cap is OEM from Mitsubishi)...
