Catalytic Converter

Hello,

First, I don't know a whole lot about cars, so keep that in mind. Anyway, I have a 2010 Lancer GTS. My engine light kept coming on a year or so ago and it's off and on with the 420 code. I finally decided to take care of it and get my cat converter and sensors replaced. I know a mechanic who's been doing this for quite a few years and I went ahead and ordered the converter (front) and the sensors. Fast forward and the mechanic tells me that I don't have a front converter, but just the long pipe running with the cat in the middle. Does that sound correct? When I look up the parts, I get both the direct fit ones with the pipe and the shorter one marked as "front." Is it just located in a weird spot that you normally wouldn't think it should be? Again, forgive my ignorance

Thanks!

Right, but the question is, are there two cats, or just one?

There's certainly a cat on the underside, but I wouldn't really know if there's another one. Would they be pretty close together? The thing that throws me off is that parts stores show two cats for that particular model, but from your answer I gather those Lancers only have the one?
