Are 18 inch wheels too big for a lancer? Im in a situation..need some advice...
I have a silver lancer with 17" gunmetal 8 spokes. I painted the calipers red and I painted the drums black(so you don't see all the rust through the rims). It looks tight. I would personally go with 17's and then lower it. Good luck
Well..i put on the 18s...heres the problem....im not sure whether it is a balancing problem or not. When i drive on the highway and hit speeds past 50 mph...the steering wheel jerks like crazy...it just vibrates and moves right and left like crazyyy...i hope its a balancing problem. I also recognized i have an alignment issue also, but i noticed this problem a long time ago with my stock wheels. Never bothered getting it fixed. What do you think is the problem?
if it shakes real bad you might want to have a local tire shop just check it out or w/e. it could be a balancing issue but if the shaking is really bad then i doubt it.
but yea i think 17 would look nice on our car. im more after looks than performance. choosing an actual rim design is going to be my hardest thing cause im a real picky person when it comes to looks.

try hubcentric rings. It might be part of the problem if you don't have them, but most likely not the whole problem.
oh and i love my 17's

17's with 45 raised my car a bit... ( my buddies call it SUV clearence... ) but it aint too bad. with the Kit it helps being a tad bit higher...
hubcentric rings... thats what i need also... the guys that "fixed" my other rims told me they would install some but couldn't find any... then they bought me new rims and told me they would put some one, but i watch them and the never but them on again! i asked the guy when he handed me the keys ( i was standing next to them while they did it ) and he told me that they had none that would work with my car... o well... steering wheel shakes a little....

Well...17's are the max size I'd use. Check my new Roja's I got ( https://www.evolutionm.net/registry/....php?mid=20226 ). Think they'll look good on my silver Lancer OZ. And the hub rings are a good accessory to get for the rims. Insures proper set onto the hub. They're pretty cheap...<$15 on Ebay. Good luck with your troubleshoot.
IMO not only are 18's too big, but so are 17's for the regular Lancer. Unless you are turboed your regular Lancer just doesn't have big enough "*****" so to speak to effeciently, from a performance perspective, move anything bigger than 16's. If all you care about is looks, then go for the 17's or above.
It's all about preference and what you plan on doing with your car. If you plan on showing, usually the bigger the better, to a certain extent. It also depends on the design of the wheel, how low you have your car, how much you care about ride quality, etc. There are a lot of factors involved in choosing wheel and tire style, and size. If you want to race, or autocross you're gonna want smaller lighter wheels. If you aren't doing either and just want to look good on the street and still maintatin driveability, I would go 17's. I have 18's on mine, but I show my car. I sacrifice ride quality to have nice bigger wheels for show, as well as better performance. Personally, I like a stiffer ride, so it's not a problem for me. I have my car slammed pretty good, and my 18's don't rub unless I am turning and hit a huge bump. And even then it doesn't hurt anything, just hits for a second and that's it. I used to have those same wheels in 17's and they looked good until the finish chipped off! I've learned from experience that with wheels, you do get what you pay for! That's why this year I sprung for enkei's! They will look good though, and the red calipers will accent them well. keep up the good work!
