How to remove rust on brake disc?
I was about to start painting my brake calipers last weekend when I realised that the brake discs were covered with rust.
I believed it's because of the high humidity here that's causing the rust. It put me off on the painting cos, even if the calipers are painted nicely, the rusted disc will spoil the look, especially after I've changed to a 17" sports rims recently.
Anyone have the same problem? Is there a way to prevent/remove the rust?
Pls advice. Will try to post pictures of the actual situation soon.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I've already use our trusted buddy, the "Search" button.

umm im pretty sure they come off as u drive your car. the corosion shouldnt be that deep unless u left the car for like a month
just drive around, use the brake and see if it goes away.
and if u dont want it to ever come back, just get the RRM slotted disc brake like pyro said

The disc itself was rusted, or the tophat part? (not the contact surface, but the mount) If it's the contact surface, don't sweat it, those rust and un-rust every time they get wet, and you step on the brakes respectively. If it's the mounting surface you're worried about, take the wheel off, then remove the caliper, then take off the disc, using a wirebrush, remove all the rust you can from the tophat. Then using a good heat resistant clearcoat, or even paint if you'd like, cover the mounting surface, leaving the friction surface clean. Be sure to clean everything really well before you replace it, and you'll be set.
