So I got my car tinted a few days ago at X-L-Lint Tint in Orlando FL. I waited the past 4 days like I'm supposed to, and haven't touched the windows to clean them or anything.
Today I'm giving it a closer inspection with my gf, and I notice that on 5 of the 7 sections, there are obvious corners that aren't covered, on the rear window the bottom section were it meets the trunk is basically full of air, and in short, it looks like crap. I've been looking at every other car with tint in a shopping center here, and the ones that are obviously professionally done, don't have any of these problems. I also am 99% sure that the rear windows, which were dirty before the install, and I told him that, weren't cleaned, which means they'll be smudged for sure. I'm gonna clean it up tomorrow.
Here's the thing. I waited in the bay while the tint was being installed, and the kid that did the job (not the owner), took about 10 cell phone calls while he was doing it, making cuts and such with one hand, or the phone tucked. That got me really upset. To make things worse, I just have this feeling the owner will try and dick me over, even though his business card says "To strive for excellence is to obtain perfection". This work wasn't even close to excellent, and is FAR FROM perfection.
So what do I do/say? I'm planning on calling and asking to speak to the owner, and I don't want to come across as a jerk, but I want it known that I'm really upset, and think it should be done, and I want it done by him, because I don't trust the kids work.
Any suggestions (and I mean realistic ones) are greatly appreciated.

I understand that you don't want to come off as being a jerk, but you should make it known just how angry you are. Getting dicked out of cash is never good, but when you pay for a service, it should be to one's satisfaction before providing payment.
This kid that did the tint is a dumbass. Nobody can cut clean lines while cupping a phone and yapping like a schoolgirl. I would make sure that you let the OWNER know that this individual has displeased you both with his work and work ethic.
Just tell the owner that you want to work redone, by a different and obviously more qualified individual, you aren't willing to pay more than you already have for work that was done incorrectly. Don't be a smartass, which a lot of people tend to become in these situations, but be firm in explaining you position on the matter.
If the owner is a beyatch too, let him know that you'll be in contact with representitives from the Better Business Buearu and several small-claims lawyers.
Although the laywers thing shouldn't become a neccessity, contacting the BBB will work wonders for you, as they will not hesitate to investigate your complaint.
Keep your cool and this should work out alright. Keep us posted.

what i would do is go in there like a ****ing madman (but calm) and scream my head off (in a normal tone of voice) until he gave me back 110% of my tint job and some new rims! (or just do it until your happy) then as they were done i would go over the car with a fine tooth comb looking for every flaw i could possibly find.
that is if hes a *****.
but really go in there and tell him your car is very important to you and you arent happy with what the kid did. not to say that hes not good at tinting but you just dont like him as a person.
if you are firm and honest about what you think i cant see why he wouldent fix-it!Edit: is it still under warrenty? if so take a heat gun to it if he starts talking ****! and if that dosent work try the heat gun on your tint!
good luck bro keep us posted!
this might get more intresting...
REEDIT: what % did u get?
^ sorry bout that I had to ask.

30% all the way around. legal, and looks good to me. i'm not worried about people seeing my face when i drive, i've got nothing to hide.
and sailorgoon, thanks for the BBB advice. i will not hesitate to call them, and i'm about to go buy a digital camera to take some pics. i've always wanted one of those things, and i figure, what the hell, now i want it AND need it. i'll post pics of the job asap.

i have the same thing going on now. My passenger side is all f'ed up and my driver side is nice. 2 different guys doing it and so i went back to the shop and the guy said sorry about the ****ty job bring your car in we will remove the tint and start over and make sure it is what you want. I have the same bubles on the back of my car, really hard to get rid of but they are working on it. Be calm and reasonable at first. if that doesnt work the persue other routes
Hey, the BBB is there for YOU, man. Lol.
I've gotten the BBB up a few asses in my day. Once a grocery store wouldn't sell me booze because the only ID I had was my passport. If you know anything about a passport, you know they are a pain to get, and you need like 5 different forms of ID when you apply for one.
Thus making the passport the most accurate ID you can ever have.
Long story short, wrote the BBB, got a letter from Jewel a month later...with a fifty-dollar gift certificate and a signed apology. The BBB don't mess around. They are a federal entity, after all.
Proof that writing some letters can make a difference. Just make sure you confront the store owner before getting them involved. You don't want to waste time if it can be fixed sooner.
