Talking Flip Flop Trunk Modification (new solution)

Well after much reading and perusing the net, I put together a design that is in-expensive, easy to do, and applicable to many vehicle trunk designs. Materials will run about 20-30 bucks and a few hours work. In the end, you have what I think is a very professional looking install that is reversible in the event you opt to sell the vehicle and what to restore the trunk back to stock operation.

What do you think? Later in the thread I posted a more detailed DIY guide

Has it raised the trunk any when closed? Like is the trunk still sealed well?

Damn it!
I had heard there was a simpler way, and I couldnt figure it out!
I did it differently and said F* it, but "thats" how I wanted to do it!

+1 Way cool.

Does it seal properly

Yes it seals properly. What you need to do when you bolt down the c-channel to the trunk lid is make sure you countersink it level to the c-channel. Then its really no different than if you did have it all... we are talk about a few millimeters extra in height only, thus no leaks. As in anything, depends on your personal skill level and willingness to take your time. Time I had, skill... well it was an experiment... hence the reason I used aluminum. I could have made the channels from steel as well... but aluminum was much easier to work with for certain.

Change it...

I say... patch up the holes and redo it... clean and sweet. My opinion only though. BTW... thanks for the props.

Agreed.... if left as brushed aluminum... I painted mine flat black so it would not be the focus of the trunk lift... looks more integrated now instead of aftermarket.

Holes in trunk

I didn't want to drill holes in trunk either, so I didn't do anything till I could figure out a better way. Now the only holes drilled are in the support arms... 3 on each.... nothing more, nothing less.
