Blacksheepdj's new "rims" for the 2008 GTS

Updated, post #56, 12/17/07

Sometimes the junkyard does the job...

[EDIT - pic uploads won't work. I'll keep trying...]
[EDIT #2 - well, I got one picture uploaded. And it's the one that truly shows my blasphemy...]
[EDIT #3 - well, got all three up 5 hours later! ]

The stock GTS heavyweight wheels...

The new kids in town. Still need a scale, but they don't really feel like the 25 lbs. that the 18" wheels are...

The test fit to make sure

And on

i do not get it, what happened to your stock rims?
are these supposed to be nice after market rims or just a replacement for one wheel that was damaged?

Still haven't decided what their actual purpose should be.

The short version is this: the cheapest tires in 215/45/18 (stock size) at TireRack are $110 each. The cheapest tires in 205/60/16 (stock size for ES and DE) are $51 each. It's amazing what 2 inches will do. That means a set of tires for the stock 18s are roughly $450 which 16s are more like $200. That's the key.

As for what I'll end up doing, there's options.

1) Put sticky rubber on the 16s and use them for AutoCross only. Use 18s for the rest of the year. Bad idea because I still have to buy $450 tires that way.

2) Put snowtires on the 16s and use the 18s for Summer. Bad idea because I still have to buy $450 tires that way.

3) Never use the stockers again after the OEM Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M ($126 each, if you were wondering) die off. Sell OEM wheels. Use 16s in future. Weird idea, but saves me the most money.

4) Put Summer tires on the 16s, use the 18s for Winter duty. Probably dumb because those huge wheels probably have crappy slush traction.

---

All in all, I have no clue what I'm going to end up doing. But I have options now.

good plan. 16's will probably look hilarious on the car but who knows. painted black it might look fine. $$$ saving is allways a bonus though.

lol. basically, sheepman is a cheap bastard that doesnt wanna pay $450 for new tires on his stock 18's. So he found some super cheap 16's so he can spend only $200 on a set of new tires. although he isnt sure what he is actually gonna do with the new set.

Love yah sheepman.

Why would 16s look hilarious? The ES and DE run on 16s from the factory.
If I left them with the Chrysler logo, THAT would be hilarious.

While your summary was good, I think he was more like "why did he post this?" And the answer to that is "to **** off the stupid close-minded jerks on this board who say that if it isn't their way, it's rice."

PS - also, it's not just about the money. It's about the weight.

The stock wheels weigh 23 lbs. The stock tires weigh 25 lbs. As I hinted at, these weigh less. The tires will probably weigh less too. So if I can cut some weight, it will help the car feel quicker and more responsive.

Crazy like a sheep . . . er . . . fox!
