well I finally decided to make the jump from my Celica over to a brand spankin new 2009 Lancer GT. I decided to go for the 18" rims w/ low pros, and a few other options. I did decide to go for the Injen cold air intake. Any of you happen to know if the quote of 8 - 10 extra hp is a load of B.S. I am in no way an expert on Cold air intakes but 8 - 10 hp seems a little high. Anyhow if any of you could give me some feed back regarding the Injen cold air intake it would be appreciated.
claiming 8 or 10 horse power is one thing, claiming 8 or 10 Wheel Horsepower is even funnier. See there is a bit of confusion when people losely speak about picking up horsepower. some connect that gain with the idea that their car really does produce 152hp as the manufacturer claims. 8 or 10 hp on top of 152 at the outside of stretching optimism is possible. But on a dyno at the wheels, where a car is producing about 130 give or take and you make a claim that your car is adding 8 or 10 at the wheels.
It somewhat pushes the limit optimism sometimes. I will soon be formally sending out an invitation for INJEN to send us an Intake up here at FourStar to do a performance run. Now I think INJEN uses a DynoJet, so we will bust the threshold gain down to 7 to 8, since Dyno Dynamics dyno are said to report lower.
I am not going to jump on the band wagon and say INJEN's CAI cant do it. If it can, I will become a beleiver and toast to those results. My pervious experience with a paticular SRI for the Lancer has already failed in my initial tests. I will be repeating them in the comming weeks to get confirmation.
Getting back to this topic about the INJEN, the history of INJEN holds up to be generally good and reliable. Your product will make gain, and Injen makes the claim that its 8 to 10. take it with grain of salt. But I have seen with my eyes in the past, Injen products make very good gains of power. I own injen products for my Mazda.
Only way you will know, is if you dyno it

Thanks for the post, it helped alot to know that Injen does make quality products. I am a bit of a Noob when it comes to tuning and mods. I did decide to take the CAI afterall and I love it. It "seems" to make a differance when I stomp on it, but how much I dont know for sure. Like you said a person would have to dyno it to know for sure. All in all I am one happy guy. Now on to my next project......the turbo. I will have some pics of my baby up as soon as the rain stops falling. Stupid Calgary weather.
another company that has good gains in terms of intakes is aem,tho not made for the 08+ lancer,if they did come out with one for our cars i'd be on that real quick,i had a aem on my sentra and it made a big difference
Actually, I don't doubt at all that either of those products truly do produce 10 hp at a given location on the dyno graph... question is, where does the 10 fall at. My bet would be it was in a spot where the factory setup dipped down about 6 hp.
Unfortunately, that is how those marketing guys pay their bills. They never give too many details to support a claim.

In Magnaflow's case the "proven power gains" dyno looked suspiciously like a stock dyno simply moved up 10 hp, especially since it showed 10 hp basically across the map (and the stock dyno showed 120 hp which is impossible). I highly doubt the Injen produces 10 hp consistently, it might have once (and that's the dyno they show-off) but that could be due to a number of factors that have nothing to do with actually gaining power.
