4g63 Swap Thread(Mad_Canabice)

Ok I am pretty sure most of you guys know I am attempting to do a AWD 4g63 swap in my 2002 lancer es so here is the progress that has been made so far. Also note that I am taking my time with this build due to the fact I have other responsiblities but i will do my best to keep updating this thread every month because i get paid on a monthly basis so enjoy and feel free to ask questions and wish me luck!!

Here is the car a few days ago

OUT WITH THE OLD!!!

fist of all the motor was removed in 2sections the head was removed fist and then the bottom due to the fact i don't own an engine lift and this is the car in it's current state.

The subframe will be removed with and evo subframe for the driveshaft

Here is the underbelly where the driveshaft will run through it's looks identical to the evo underbelly and should be able to fit the driveshaft and exhaust what do you guys think?

And here is the 4g63 motor as it stand right now I have the valves and lifters I just need to put them in.

Here is the block that my friend gave me with the head but there is bad news he said it has damaged crank bearings and it is possible the block isn't any good but the cylinder walls are in great shape from what i see but i will pull it aprt this weekend and find out how it looks inside.

judging from the pistons this looks like a low milage motor or maybe it could have been running lean I've got my fingers crossed that it is reuseable if not then i'll just use it as planned as a reffernce to just help me get everything in place

Sanded the area today where the passenger side engine mount bracket will be welded next week

Good luck bro.

Those pistons are beat up.

Also, you're replacing the front suspension and steering rack, correct?

Y would you say the pistons are beat up? sorry if it sounds newbish.Yes the front suspension has to be replaced to support the extra weight also the both front and rear subframes will be replaced to make way for the driveshaft and transfercase.

check ebay or junkyards for a valve cover.

if all else fails hit up a dealer... won't be cheap though.

Your Post

I have seen 4G63 Engines swaped into many different cars, but one scratches the head to as why? I am not sure what Evo's go for where you are, but a decent used Evo 8 I would think would be better than basically rebuilding a whole lancer? I mean, don't get me wrong, I think its great, but from a cost prospective, and a safety porspect. Anything is possible no doubt. Doing the work yourself will save you allot of money, for sure. But in my book sometimes its best to save that Money and buy and Evo? Even an older one. Very interesting to see how your project comes along. Good Luck to you.
