Question Need help removing stock shift boot...

i recently swapped out the stock oz knob for an evo knob. it fits great, but there's about a 1 1/2 inch gap where the stick shows. very ugly.

i searched, but couldn't really find any good directions, and i don't want to go removing the whole console if i don't have too.

does anybody know how to get the stock boot off? is it as simple as removing the trim ring, or is that a piece of the console.

any help is great, pictures are always best of course.

Remove the center console between teh seats - not too tough (couple of screws inside the CD bin) and then remove the center console around the shifter itself. There are clips up near the front of this and a couple screws that will be uncovered when the CD bin piece is gone. Turn that piece upside down and you'll see exactly how the boot is attached.

Yuppers. There are 4 screws that are holding in the boot.

just a thought, but when I changed the knob, I thought about just getting a 1" piece of black irrigation tubing to cover it up. Otherwise, you'd have to take the center console off and put shims on the stick from the inside to hold the boot higher or something.

It's not hard to take off the console - I promise. I just did it a couple of days ago to run some wires for my sub. took about 10 minutes to get it off and on again.
