I have a question on offset rims

Well i already tryed searching and i couldent find the answer i want. I want to know what exactly offset rims mean? I already bought new rims and tires, but i am trying to sell my stock OZ rims. I was wondering if 4x114.3 is a offset rim for a 4x100 pattern. I am sorry if i sound stupid but i have no idea what offset is.

Offset is how much the wheel sticks out from where it mounts. For example - wheels with an offset of 40 will fit on a lancer, wheels that have an offset of 15 will stick out like those little 13 inch mexican rims you see all over the place. The max I would go is 36 but that may stick out too much for the lancer. my 18's have an offset of 38. 4x114.3 is the bolt pattern on an O.Z. 4x100 is a smaller bolt pattern that scion xb's have. If you want to find the offset on your wheels look on the back of one of the spokes, it should be somewhere around 40 because most aftermarket wheels stick out more that the stockers. let me know it this helps.

offset is basically the distance from the center of the wheel that the hub mounts to it. the greater the offset, the more of the wheel that will be under the car, the less the offset, the more likely you will have the wheel sticking out of the side of the car. offsets are typically measured in millimeters.

here's a calculator for converting the offset when you purchase a wider wheel.

215-35-18 / 38 offset / 7.5 inch width. It comes close to the fender but does not rub. Looks great imo.

If you want you wheels to be more flush against the fenders you could...
