Jumpy ride

Well as mentioned in a thread below we recently put 17 inch rims with bfg kdw 215/40/17 tires on my wifes car. She now finds that the car is a little jumpy on the highway. It really moves around in the wind and over the rough roads. Any simple ideas to get the rise closer to stock? Maybe switch to different shocks?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
We are just unsure of what way to go to change the handling. Should it be softer shocks with stiffer springs or vice versa or something cmpletely different?

lowering springs such as teins or progress.

low profile tires will also bring the car closer to the stock height but it will make the ride even worst.

you should have gone with 16" wheels for the ride comfort but that is fine. Just lower it and it will improve alot.

low profile tires + bigger rims = worst ride quality

thicker tires + smaller rims = best ride quality.

What they said. 17s lead to a crappy ride quality...

Smaller sidewall size leads to bad ride quality, not the dimensions of your rim. A 50 rated sidewall tire would ride smoother than a 35, and so on... Stiffer springs make you hop around more in the bumps in the road, but are nice on the road course and curves.

The car may handle better, but the ride quality is only going to get worse with lowering springs.

you should of went 16's becuase the bigger you go the smaller the tire is and the worst the ride is i had 17's on my lancer and it did the same thing but i then i dropped to 16's with like a 225 size tire and the ride is pretty good

Well a good deal on the rims came up and since we needed to replace the rubber on her old rims.......We went for the change. I have 17 on my eclipse so we thought the ride would be similar.
Any way my wife really likes the rims so I know that the springs would worsen ride quality but I was also planning on changing the shocks as well, Actually more of a coil-over setup with adjustable damping.
I think I should be able to improve the ride quality with that setup.
What do you guys think?
If I went to a 45 tire would that make much improvement or would the rubbing be too great ? (I know there will be rubbing if lowered without body work.)
Thanks for any info/threads I shold read.
