this is weird...

hey,

new here, but anwyays i just bought my brand new '06 OZ and i picked it up last monday. I since put 1140km on it! Tonight i was out just doing some donuts and stuff with a buddy and after we were done, i noticed a weird smell for a sec then my brakes felt really soft.

I could almost press the peddle to the floor almost as if my MC had blown or the diaphram was stuck! The ABS was not working at all, so i shut the car off, and turned it back on and it was back but it wasnt working very well with a soft peddle still.

I checked the fluid, still toped up, didnt see any leaks. When i pump the brakes with the car off, the peddle at first seemed like it sank but i tried again a few mintues later, and it didnt move and held from what i think i noticed? might be all in my head...

After the car sat for a good 10mins wih the hood open (its -15*C out), the brakes seem to work agian and the abs was back but it just didnt feel as crisp as it used to, maybe i just wore the pads in? Or maybe there is somehting seriously wrong here, maybe the ABS solenoid is messed?? or did i just heat the brake lines/fluid or something with the braking system some how? The temp needle stayed where it should be the whole time, never moved!

any ideas? should i be worried and bring the car in??

Were you doing a lot of heavy braking? Hell, maybe you boiled the brake fluid in the lines.

If you screwed up the ABS, a light on the dash would come on.

If you're going to be abusing the car, maybe you should look into upgrading. Pads, rotors, hoses and brake fluid might not hurt. You have to remember - this is a little econobox, not a performance car. It's not going to be able to handle the abuse like your other two cars...

i didnt boil the fluid...i never touched the brake peddle, just the hand brake.

But either way, i brogyuht it in, and they tried to pull codes and test drive it, and nothing was wrong...so maybe the pads just finaly wore in?? it was werid..

Maybe you botched the drums then. If all you were doing is pulling the e-brake your front brakes should have been affected.

The shoes won't have frozen, I've taken mine out in weather so cold that the transmission fluid and the clutch fluid have been like molasses and the brakes were always fine.
