Programming Tire Sensors

I am looking at purchasing the stock 18's for the GT-S's instead of other rims (keep it stock looking while I put my cash into the drivetrain) but was told by mitsu that they need to program the sensors so the computer will recognize them. Seeing as the mitsu dealer is 55 minutes away and has the worst hours known to man.

Does anyone know if I could activate/program the sensors for my car myself? and if so how?

Just get your stock sensors put in the new rims. According to the owners manual, those sensors should last 5 years (which means they'll really last 10... ).

I was hoping to have both sets work because I am keeping my stock 16's for winter tires and would rather not have to get them continually swapped back and forth.

are there any reasons that I couldn't run the winters without the sensors in them?

The only reason is the massive annoyance of the TPMS system going off CONSTANTLY. If you don't mind that, then go right ahead. But from the folks that have put on tires without TPMS, it's been a nightmare of bonging and flashing warnings on the INFO screen.

Didn't know you meant a 2nd set, sorry. I was hoping you'd come trade wheels with me and we could just switch sensors.

I went for about 4 days when my rims were off getting powder coated and I wanted to shoot someone... But maybe that's just me. (Don't do it)

I don't know what state Vernon is in.

I probably wouldn't do it straight up anyhow. But thanks for the offer.

... could just swap the sensors back and forth from your rims.. or get a second set and reprogram them every time you swap rims/tires

you can only program the sensors you are using into the car at a time. and even if you could program all 8 into the computer.. the second your car moved like 10 ft away from the sensors.. the reminder light would light up and blink

easiest way would be just to swap your sensors back and forth each season change. shouldn't even have to take the tire off the rim, just pop the bead and push the edge down , pull the sensor out,

as for programming yourself.. it's not something that you can just fiddle with the ign and locks/door open close (theres some cool stuff you can turn on and off with toyota's if you know the sequences ) .. you have to go into the ECU itself and input the sensors serial codes one by one ... I haven't checked the global scanner to see if it can, but I'm pretty sure you need a manufact specific tool to get in and set the sensors
