Brake Problem

Well, I just got done changing my rotors to new ones drilled and slotted. now I am having a problem, because my brakes aren't very good at stopping anymore. I changed my pads, bled the brakes, but now the car doesn't stop as good as it did with the stock rotors, any ideas ppl?

Did you properly break them in? I remember when I first put on my Brembo slotted rotors + Axis ultimate pads, my brakes were soft for about a week until they were totally broken in.

So I guess mainly see how everything is by next week? I just get bothered by having to press them entirely down like I'm stepping on a clutch, rather than a brake. It just bothers me, the calipers were also just painted if that helps?

Your peddle should not go all away to the floor. Just to be safe, bleed your brakes again. If that doesn't help, take it to a mechanic. The only way the paint would be a problem is if the paint got somewhere that it doesn't need to be.

You can always just bed them in faster. There's a how-to on here somewhere.

Basically it means breaking the brake pads in and creating the layer that normally forms on the rotors.

The axxis ult. brake pads should come with a little piece of paper that explains how to break the pads in.

It something like this:
1. Find a long straight desert road.
2. Accelerate to approx. 50mph.
3. Deccelerate to approx. 30mph by hard braking(don't lock the wheels)
4. repeat step 2 and 3 AT LEAST 10 times(preferably 15 or more)

After that you should really feel an enormous improvement over your stock brakes.

If you still have a problem, then it can be many things.

1.You did not bleed the brake lines correctly.
2.You bought your rotors on Ebay, for a price too good to be true.
3.You bought your pads on Ebay, for a price too good to be true.
4. A combination of the above.

You won't feel the difference until the brakes have cooled, you essentially want to get them hot enough that they fade a little. I'll see if I can find the how-to I followed.

Well I have not heard anything bad from ebay rotors before, and I bought them a while back. If it helps at all, I drove a lot today and during the driving when I had to drive for long lengths, the brakes felt stronger. However, when I started driving again I guess they cooled down, so they felt like a clutch pedal again.

If the pedal is going down like a clutch, you bled the brakes improperly and introduced air into the system. Driving the car in this state is extremely dangerous. You need to re-bleed the brakes, and I suggest you do it until clean, clear fluid flows from the bleeder. Buying a vacuum or pressure bleeder makes this very easy.

New pads do need to be broken in, but this should be done after a few normal stops. Most people will not even notice a difference before and after the pads are broken in. You definitely have a hydraulic problem.
