03 lancer es struts/spring?

My struts and shocks have been blown for about 6 months now, and I'm getting real sick of the bounciness.. I've been looking around online for some replacement parts, but I'm not sure what I should get. I'd like to get something that's not too expensive, but it would be cool to get some performance upgrade in them. I was thinking KYB GR2's with Eibach springs? Or maybe H&R? I live in Massachusetts, so dropping too much would be a problem with so many potholes.. But I'm sick of the disgusting fistlike gap when I have my 17's on.

Any suggestions?

Coilovers are best bang for buck imo. I had progress springs and wasnt happy with them at all.

Your at $600 already might as well wait and get a matched set plus lowering springs on the KYB will still kill the struts just as quick as stock.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have a question regarding my 2002 es shocks/struts. Is there a difference in suspension between the OZ/LS/ES 2002 models? Just like symX, I found out that my struts are crapped out and need to get replaced (along with new tires and tierods... :-/ ) and I don't want to spend a lot. I know that gabriel makes ready/pre-assembled struts for the LS and OZ models, but I could not find any for the ES model. Could I use LS or OZ gabriel ready mount struts on the ES? Also, I know that coilovers are the best bang for the buck in terms of quality but I want the stock feel.

they say the LS and OZ will not fit the ES but i have a 02ES im parting out and i sold the rear shocks and springs to a guy that has a 04 rally and they fit. i dont see why they wont cause ive seen ads on ebay and other places that list struts for the ES,LS,OZ and others that just say LS and OZ so i dont think anybody really knows. i own a 02 LS and i know the hubs are different but as far as the strut mounts they look exactly the same so in my opinion their the same

Hmmm.. really? That's interesting. This is my dd so I don't want to risk it if it's a different suspension setup. But I think you may be right. I compared the car specs between the ls and es and they are almost identical. With the exception that the LS comes with larger stock wheels and tires I believe.

You can get some really cool savings at Advance Auto. I'm thinking about replacing mine's as well, the set of 4 will run at about $400 for KYB or less.

I just ordered the entire oe monroe struts (both front and rear) and the mounting kits. I'm also replacing both my passenger and driver side inner/outer tierods and getting new tires as well. Hopefully, after fixing all this my car drives smooth again and I can keep it for another 2 years or so as my DD.
