2 questions.

If you have a spring compressor, why do you need an impact?

Can you just go to mitsu and by the evo camber bolt? It is an excentric (sp?) bolt that replaces the top bolt holding the strut to the steering knuckle.

How do I remove the top 17mm nut from the bolt on top of the strut? Every time I turn the nut the bolt turns too, the whole strut cylinder turns with it so I can't even break it loose. I am loosing my mind.

vise grips...clamp them on the piston shaft as far as you can as to not burr the metal where it would damage the oil seal during normal operation...then just crank it on with a ratchet or impact

or, you can use a crescent wrench and a normal open ended/box end wrench, where the top of the shaft is flat on two opposite sides, you put the adjustable wrench on that and just use a normal wrench on the nut...and do it by hand

as far as that quote goes, are you trying to remove the strut from the mount while it's still on the car? that's the problem right there, take the whole strut assembly out...it'll make life a lot easier...

The entire strut assembly is out of the car, I just can't get the shaft to stop spinning.

I can't get a normal wrench on the nut because it sits inside the mount, it requires a deep socket to reach. I will take pics if I cant get it resolved.

oh, yeah, then vise grips...just clamp onto the shaft, and take the nut off. If you are re-using the strut, or when you install a new one, just push the dust boot up as high as you can and clamp there, so you're only damaging the metal where the strut will never travel, or you can go a step further and just use a scrap piece of rubber in the jaws of the vise grips if you're worried about messing anything up...

Yea I still can't get a good enough grip on the shaft. Every time I try to hold onto the shaft with vice grips, pipe wrenches, strap wrench, etc. it just slips. I'm about to drill a hole into the shaft so I can stick something into it to hold it still.
