Tein coilovers - Basic or SS?
OK, I have the S-tech springs, and the ride ain't very smooth.
I want to go coilover. I will probably never autocross in my life. All I really want is a well-handling car that offers a relatively smooth ride. I have a limited budget, so the price difference from basic to SS is a problem.
For the basic owners - how is the ride? If I want a decent, smooth ride, should I just go SS or will the basic be fine?

I think either option is honestly the expensive, but available one. If ANYONE (tokico...) ever releases adjustable shocks, that would help solve your ride problem just the same as the set dampening/adjustable height of the basic and the adjustable dampening/adjustable height of the ss.
But since I'm not a fan of waiting, since we've been hoping for adjustable shocks since the car was first released, I'd go with the basic kit. 15 levels of dampening is overkill to smooth out a ride. In fact, you could probably just get coilover sleeves (Skunk2, Ground Control) and not drop the car as much to get rid of your not-so-smooth ride. That option right there is half the cost of the basic kit.

Which coilovers are you talking about specifically? I have Ground Controls on my car and the stock struts are just fine. Last summer I had them set almost completely to maximum drop (3"). One of our club members has been riding on Skunk2 coils almost completely slammed and his struts are fine as well. Another one of our club members has had Skunk2 coils for a few months now and I'll be sure to let anyone interested know if his, or any of our struts get blown.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to ruin the stock struts, but I've given three instances where the stock struts have held up.

Back on topic - I'm getting the Tein. I just want advice on Basic vs. SS. I know the Skunk2 & Ground Control are nice, but I want to stick with Tein. Thanks.
Edit - just saw this over in Lancer General. I guess that pretty much answered me. Feel free to lock this...
