oh my i just spent like 2 hours takin out my shock assembly or whatever it is called so i was happy when i got it out. all i know was that from my friends taht have worked on their car,they said i needed an allen wrench and a adjusttable wrench to take out the top nut. when i looked at it there was no allen wrench nut and so if tried to spin the top nut the shock would spin. then being the asian that i am and ghetto rigger that i am,i took a vise grip and grip the middle shock and tried to turn the nut. the result, a bunch of teeth marks ran accorss my shock =X. well so i decided forgetit, take it to a shop. well then 5 hours later, i realized it washarder to put the shock assembly back on then taking it off, as it is with everything. puttin thing back together = extra nuts. GRREAT!!! any idea on how to take that top nut off???

Bolt it back to the A arm or whatever it's connected to at the base and try again. You probably would have had better luck with the vise grip or at least done less damage if you put a little rubber (like a little strip or a pad) between the vise grip and the shock's outer casing. Anyway...foresite is key in big projects like those. I wouldn't be too thrilled about my suspension missing nuts.

On other things (like things that don't drive me around and/or weigh more than a ton) I can deal with bonus nuts, but on my car I'd be a more than a little concerned. Anyway...good luck.

You are ghetto fo sho! Shock is dead. Best way to pull nut is air impact. SHaft should be perfect mirroe finish or else. One strut at deal is about $120ish

yeah i agree the air impact gun would be the best way.....thats what i used.

I didn't have access to an impact wrench at the time and I also couldn't find any sort of tool that would help me so I had to come up with another plan. So I made my own version of a strut nut socket. I cut it with a rotary tool I have. I use this socket to turn the strut nut while I hold the top end of the strut in place with an adjustable wrench in the new opening I made and oh my gosh it worked!

Good job Sonantoni! I'd say thats probably the best sollution, but a couple quick burst of an impact got my nut off the old strut and back on my new ones.
