I want to get rrm's short shifter, but a friend told me they have a high tendency to harm your transmission. He did it on two seperate cars, and swears he will never buy another one. However, this guy also tends to have bad experiences with aftermarket upgrades, so I tend to think it is just him. Can anyone else tell me if they have ever seen damage to a transmission caused by a short shifter? Thanks.
I didn't say it's not possible, I just don't think it's at all likely if you install it properly. All it does is change where the fulcrum is on your shift knob essentially. It's just the most basic way of altering a lever. The shift cable thingy (dunno the proper name) moves the same exact distance, only the knob travel distance and time should change.
i guess it would be possible if it wasn't engineered correctly. if the bottom piece of the shifter, the one that physically moves the cables, is too long or too short i would think it COULD potentially hurt the tranny. i have confidence in B&M tho, and i doubt they would release a product that would cause any damage to anything.
when most ppl install short shifters the most likely thing they do to trash ther tranny is that with the shift shorter... their feet get the timing off... and they tend to burn up their clutch... some ppls learning curve is just to high to get it right fast enough lol

Hate to get off topic, but Hobie, let us know when you get your AFC installed, and perhaps write a review for everyone.
Never had a problem reported to us about shifter. Sounds like the driver not the shifter. REPEAT NEVER heard of a problem with the shifter!
