Short shifter not recommended?
Short shifter not recommended?
I was reading about and debating getting a shortshifter. Then I saw a comment about how short shifters hurt your syncros worse than stock. Is this true? If so why do Evo's have shorter shifters than ES? Can someone please clarify this for me?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have the work shorthrow. I didnt like it at first, but after about 5000 miles you learn that it takes a little more to pop it in gear. As far as hurting the syncros.....Over shifting can cause syncro problems and even break them.
I have replaced bout 100 shift forks in corvette trannies. U think Mitsu is bad...Aluminum shift forks + high horsepower = disaster! Main reason was overshifting. Thats why alot of short throws have buit in shift limiters.... bolts that have lock nuts to prevent over movement of the shifter.

are you getting this info from the road and track Q & A? The shortshifter won't do any damage itself, but it does require more effort to shift. theoretically you could hurt your synchros more with a shortshifter if you really bang on it.
don't slam the shifter into place, and get some synthetic manual tranny oil. with the oil it'll take less effort, and you won't risk damaging your synchros
