How'd I miss this one!? The Lancer shares the same flywheel with the 1.8L Mirages. Just order up one of those from VI/RPW. HOWEVER, it's not a lightweight flywheel. It's simply stronger to deal with higher stresses put on it by better clutches.

As I understand it our flywheels are pretty light. Allegedly lightening our existing ones through machining would cause SERIOUS weakness (apparently moreso than most cars). Of course that does not rule out the idea of making a flywheel of lighter materials of greater strength.

Also, let me as one of the Trifecta add my 2 cents...

A lightened flywheel really is only as effective as the power you have going through it. It's one of those parts that stock/Light NA you'd probably notice little or no difference. Unfortunately, life isn't like Gran Turismo, and a part like that will only garner results if you have more power spinning it.

Yes RPW does manafacture a carbon steel billet flywheel for the car and due to there design of a plate in the centre bolting onto an outside steel ring, there is nothing to be gained lightening it. But ours are stronger to cope with higher horsepower levels anda re readil available.

That'd be right but I'm not sure about the difference between the sprung and unsprung type.

these are "unsprung" or solid hub..... very harsh engagement, not recomended for street driving. a freind put a 6 puck solid hub act clutch in his car and he kept killing it at lights or lighting up the tires to keep from killing it. on/off like a light switch, he ended up taking it out 2 weeks later and blowing another $350 for a milder performance clutch

All Jun or Todaracing has any flywheel off the 1.6L MIVEC will fit on 4g9x series motor. Of course, expect high $ for chrome-moly stuff. Then again, if you somehow tear up those light weight, exotic material flywheel, you can't take it to a machinist to try to fix it.

RPW has them available and any 1.8l Mirage flywheels should fit. Finally had time to do some research on this and found info from David Thomas of RPW as well as some random web searches. I dunno though, I see flywheel as being a much lesser upgrade still, but If and when I do my clutch I may as well do the flywheel at the same time to cut labor costs.
