7K Rev Limit ECU questions
7K Rev Limit ECU questions
So the P&P ECU for the Lancers that takes the rev limiter up to 7 grand... anyone have experience with this? I was wondering if I could put the RRM piggyback on it so I could have the higher revs plus the performance flash from RRM. I was under the impression I would have to shorten the length of the engine stroke to get a higher rev limit. Anyhow, if anyone knows more about this my main concern is about the best way to get a higher rev limit from my car without damaging anything. For those who don't know, I'm referring to this.
what do you mean by P&P??
Anyway the reflashed ecu your refering to not only has the fuel curve trimmed already but also has the timing advanced accordingly as well. There would be no need to use the RRM piggyback with this ecu as it's already tuned.
As far as the the rev limiter... the lancer engine has a safe enough stroke to take the 7k rev limit with ease. There have been a few people to have them and one was an autox guy(urbanknight). He kept the motor pegged all the time and never had an issue. Trust me an RRM product would never be unsafe for you to use.
These are no longer available... they don't reflash ecu's anymore. Getting ahold of one of these isn't easy. I say grab it.

God, reading that thread makes me sad. I realize that anyone who goes "reflashed ECU? Will that **** your engine?" is new enough to not remember RRM selling those. And that makes me feel old.
As for ECU + piggy, no. As Boe said, the ECU does the exact same thing. RRM just doesn't sell them anymore because the programmer got greedy, so they switched to the SplitSecond piggyback units.

you could always add a piggy (not rrm's) to the ecu so that you could smooth out the curve even more... or if say you go outside of the ecus range (say cams or turbo) and you need to change the curve. this is just a thought... as no one with rrm's ecu has done this as i know... i was thinking about this since i woul enjoy the 7k rev limit in autox and then have the piggy for when i start getting heavily modded. Someone correct me if im wrong with any of this
and i think by P&P he ment plug and play

Yes, P&P = Plug and Play. Anyhow, it just seemed a *little* high to be paying $700 for the whole ECU, I know, I know, it's nothing compared to the price of EMS or most of the others but for throwing down $300-$500 more and being able to get a stand alone system it seems high. So the piggyback doesn't let you rev up to 7k I'm guessing? I just got one used in the mail today, which is kind of why I was hoping I could use it in my quest to hit 7. So the ECU that is being sold in the link above, that was originally from RRM? Or is this someone else doing it? Also, could I get the piggyback re-flashed (or my stock ECU) to set the rev limiter at 7? Sorry for all the crazy questions but I don't know crap about computer ECUs.

It was a privateer if I remember correctly, meaning a single guy did it. A 7K rev limit is pointless anyways, power drops off well before then. If you're heavily modified, it's a different story of course.
ah well see in my case right now its not an important mod, but in the future it will as im sure the others are thinking the same thing. I mean i just got my rrm stage one cams in, and when i come back from iraq if i dont get that evo im working on right now i will probably get my forged pistons and rods and my headers.
