auto to manual

i might, quote my might, have the oppertunity to get a 02 oz, that was totaled, from the back end. and the owner bought it back rof 2k. now i dont know everything about this vehicle, other than it has a rebuilt trans, manuel, rebuilt for race, not sure exactly what was done, like flywheel and clutch and etc. but i might be able to buy this car, that would be cool, cuz i would change everything from this oz to my ls. but i am asking, money wise, for labor , i will probaly do this with the help of some freinds. but i did search any only find engine swaps and some trans fluid threads. but i wanted to know how hard this would be. and yes, well have a full car lift and all tools.

It seems like if you already have everything, then it shouldn't be too bad. Most people get flamed because they don't realize just how much stuff is needed to do the conversion. I say go ahead and do it, and good luck. It looks like you might be the first person (maybe the first LS?) to have a manual transmission.

If you want your LS to be an OZ you'll need:
tranny
ECU
clutch/shifter linkages and cables
Cut some holes for clutch pedal
Get the brake fluid reservoir so you'll also have the clutch fluid reservoir
replace the axles and get 4x114.3 rims (all 4 corners )
OZ suspension components (upper mounts, etc)

If you basically have another car that's ready to strip, you should be good to go... I think

yeah, ill have the stuff, im not wanting to go full oz. i like the ls, i like the mobster style of vehichles, class and performance. i want to make my ls like that. now, i havnt gotten my service manuel yet, but does the tranny have an ecu, or a comp for itself? or is that in the control of the cars ecu. cuz alchy mentioned ecu. and now do i need an axle conversion or is that just suggested?

i would love to be the first manual ls conversion in the us. i always thought i had the largest intake on the lancer, but never verified it, a little off topic, but funny. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=138536

well your ECU is gonna be trying to shift and that's gonna cause problems- it's an all-in-one ECU

I don't know if the axles are all the same up front or if you NEED a manual axle now. If that's the case you'll have mismatched lug patterns unless you swap the rears out too. Maybe you'll get lucky and the axles from the LS will fit (because you'll have the entire lineup of Civic rims to choose from ) But this is what happens when you're a trendsetter/trailblazer you get to figure stuff out on your own- welcom to the club

haha, thank you, ive already figured out some things, like not spending a crap load of money on exhaust or intake, but i dont have a service manual. i should be getting mine soon. but ill check the specs between the two, if i have to change axles, ill do it, and yeah, i hate honda's, but the civics do have a nice selection of rims. but i gotcha on the ecu, but a ls with oz parts would be nice to have. ill have to sell my 14 year old box of ninja turtles macaroni for some extra $$ so i can get this done. thanks for the help alchemist

I know that the cars are completely different, but I did a tranny swap on my 95 M3. With the M3, I had an ECU for the motor/electronics/fuel, and an ECU for the tranny. When the swap was completed, I left the computer in place because I did not want to throw any codes or CEL. In the E36 body style, everything was bolt on, no cutting or drilling. Occasionally you run into some issues like wiring reverse lights and fixing the neutral saftey switch, but it wasn't too bad. Word of advise, make sure you have everything you need before you start the swap. I ran into problems with wrong clutch kits, wrong input shafts on the driveshaft, etc... and it took me about 3 weeks longer than it should have. Though in the end it was all worth it. Good luck with the project.

i would think you would have to do the axels because the trannys are different sizes. im not sure if they are the same length or not. if they are then you dont have to do anything with the axels but if they arent the same length then you would.

not just size, but the teeth on the axles that go into the tranny? Are they different? That's what I was thinking about.

not to sure. they could be, but in some cars, for simplicity, their is no axle difference. so their cost isnt to high. but i know this from cars that dont have different lines: es, ls, oz all different lines.
