electrical engineering question

i know their are man/auto's and other types of trans that allow an auto to shift at the drivers will, but is their anyway you can tap into the ecu of our auto to allow us to make a device that will let us upshift or downshift when we want to? the old vw's ,like beetle's, had a weird trans that when u let off the gas you could shift. any on an electrical engineer that can clear this up?

just shift the shifter yourself, start in 1, then move it to 2 etc.

thats not the way i was talking about. the tcugo was just what i was looking for. to bypass the functions of the tcu and allow the driver to choose their shift points, either by shifting at those points, or making new shift pionts. going from different gear settings is kinda ghetto. not flaming you, but that wasnt what i was after.
