On another note...anyone know where the hell to get a cv shaft?! Napa, carquest, autozone, advanced auto, and oreillys here dont have it listed. MItsu dealer says $800 for it. WTF

Im in shock here. No one locally rebuilds em. no one stocks em or can even order them. Internet best deal i could find was $600. ebay has one but it says es, not sure if that'll work. I've caled junk yards, parts stores out of state... Does noone ever have to replace these things?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CV-AX...2em118Q2el1247

Think that'l work?

Just replace the entire axle. The ebay auction you listed will work. Make sure you mention whether you need driver or passenger side.

Thats the problem... Noone can get the full axle or even the rebuild kit for the joints. Ebay parts scare me.

I finally found one, special order from a tuner car parts shop 30 min away. Seriously does no one ever replace these things?

Origional question though anyone with a book tell me what the wheel bearing torque is? I donno if its just my town but it seems no parts stores can give me information or parts for my car.

I've replaced these on a previous car. CV Boot tore, grease came out, and I didn't realize it until it started making a thumping noise while turning. Anyway, the way to go is to replace the axel (exactly what's listed in the eBay link). And if you're replacing one axel, you might as well replace both front axels (there is a driver side and passenger side axel). On my other car, I got my axels from Advance Auto Parts with a core trade in. I paid $180 total for both axels after the core turn in. I'm not sure what the torque value is though. I think I used something like ~really f-ing tight~. But that's just an estimate. Good luck finding what you need.

It's near impossible to find remanufactured axles for Lancers. I've been looking around trying to find a source for when they start to go on my Ralliart (since I've past 100k). Our only reasonable option is to buy a junkyard set then ship them out to be rebuilt.

Any idea how much it would cost to have a set rebuilt? Just wondering if it would be worth it to do that for other lancer owners with the same problem.

No idea, never looked that far into it. I would guess under $50 per axle.

Junked axles run around $150-ish each. Figure another $100 to have them rebuilt. Still tons cheaper than buying new.

I agree. I just realized there's a junk yard about 5 miles from my house. Gonna have to check for axles up there, get some ready for when mine crap out on me.
