When some of my friends get the chance to drive my car, they drive it hard and really dump the clutch
I was like **** don't do that man!
So, I only let people drive my car if they know how to shift damn
I also teach some of my friends who don't know how to drive a stick and they're really taking a beating until the engine dies and the car jerks so I think I'll be the only one who'll be driving my lancer from now on
Anyways, I was wondering about the toughness of our Lancer transmission and clutch? What kind of symptoms should you notice if they are being driven coarsely? Will my car get messed up in the long run or will the transmission get somewhat of a slack later on? Sorry to be ranting I just want to make sure my care doesn't break down in the middle of the road because of a beaten tranny

From whats been done on the forums as far as turbo applications the transmission seems to be handling the power increase pretty well so for the most part the tranny is as solid as most. Letting people learn how to drive stick can either take thousands of miles off your clutch if they ride it, hurt your starter if they constantly stall, or really damage your tranny if they grind gears. I would make sure my friends didn't dump the clutch at redline if i were you its not really good to do constantly and could lead to things later on. Launch only when you absolutely need to, thats the best advice I can give.

fury656 thanks for the response. I was wondering about hurting your starter. Well one time when my friend started my car and accidentally released the clutch with the shifter on 1st gear, the car jerked and she immediately pressed the break and clutch to prevent it from going forward. She immediately try to start it and it wouldn't even start, it was as if the spark plugs wouldn't spark or something. So I thought damn my car is ***ed up... But we gave it a 10second rest then restarted the car and it started this time. That was weird. ANyone have this problem with their starter? What could have caused this?

as far as what to listen 4 when a trany is going i recall a click when i would go from a coast to pushing on the gas i know this with expernice cause i blew 2 in a 91 dodge stealth they were notorise for blowing trannys, also avoid "banging" or "chirping" second this dose a number on ure tranny as well, also if u live in a cold climate or ever do be carfull on cold morings before ure tranny warms up its really easy to grind gears with a cold tranny personaly im not woried about blowing my clutch because rrm has a really nice set up i would replace it with
the big question about the starting problem, is this: did you hear a clicking noise when the ignition was turned? sometimes a starter can get stuck on a bad spot and won't turn, but the selanoid will click when the ignition is turned. if something happens where the car won't start when you turn the ignition, put the car in neutral and rock it back and forth a few times and try it again. this will get a starter unjammed or move it off of a bad spot.

Hmm something's weird today. I just feeling a scraping sound whenever I go in reverse
What could that be?? There's no problem when I go forward though, all 5 gears are fine. This is a manual btw. Any thoughts?
Just installed a grounding kit the same day, but I doubt that could be the culprit. Maybe I'll remove it and see if it will go away. Any thoughts??

Reverse sounds different because of the way the gear is ground. I forget if it's because of lack of syncros or what but there is a definite reason. *fumes because he doesn't know the answer*
It's because the tooth design.
It's a spur gear and your 1-5 gears are helical.

Ok, just got the chance to uninstall two wires of the grounding kit(the ones that are connected to the engine block) and it's now making less scraping sound. But still very little sound can be heard. The one connected to the negative battery to the engine body frame is the only one connected right now. But I did notice the car takes harder to start compared where its easy to start with the grounding kit. Maybe the ecu is not ready for the grounding kit? Should I reset my ecu after installing the grounding kit? How should I do this?
I talked to the guys over at RMR, and they said they think the trans can handle the extra power pretty well. they told me that the 2002 lancer that they rallied had the stock trans in it...hell..rally racing can be pretty tough on a trans

OK, I just removed my grounding kit and it still makes this scraping sound when I go in reverse. My friend noticed it too and asked me what it was. I said I didn't know and I'll have the mitsu service check it out. It's especially quite loud when I go in reverse on an incline.
And to Hobie and pjal, I know how a normal reverse sounds like and this problem I have doesn't seem normal. Think of a rough metal scraping into another metal...that's what it sounds like. I don't go fast in reverse to get that loud "whirring sound" as mentioned in Hobie's link howstuffworks.

OK, its kinda stupid but I didn't mention I also installed front strut bar on my lancer...those cheap ones you buy in ebay
Anyways, before I went to have my car aligned at mitsu, I removed the strutbar and noticed that it had been scratched by the throttle body screws. So I realized that that was the scraping sound that I've been hearing.
Anyways, its been solve now so I'll just buy a couple of washers to increase the clearance of the bar so it doesn't touch the throttle body, I guess I have to play around with it a little...
Btw, I was at mitsu dealership and the sales people were convincing me to trade in my lancer for the evo haha, i wish... There are a couple of evos there and I did saw a couple of oz low profile wings installed on the evo and it looks pretty bad, the big wing what really sets the evo apart.
