The difference between Evo shifter & Lancer shifter

NOTHING!

That's right, short shifters made for the Evo8 should fit the US Lancer. At least the B&M one fits both for sure. Maybe many of you know this already, but apparently plenty of people still don't. When I helped Joe (drummerjun) install his short shifter, he told me he bought it from Vivid. When I called Vivid up, I was told that they didn't have the shifter for the Lancer yet. I told him I thought a friend of mine bought his from them and that I'd chack before placing an order. Sure enough, Joe confirmed my information and Vivid is happy to hear the news. Now my next conquest is to find out if the Evo rear strut bars fit the Lancer. Ricardon's rear strut towers looked amazingly like mine, so we might do a little monkeying around at the next meet to make sure.

I read the thread title and was like "wtf? They're different?! It's been the same since the Evo IV!"

Any word on the rear strut towers?

The Perrin should fit just fine, as should any shifter for the Evo. Like Andrew said, the Evo 4,5,6,7,8 and the Lancer all use the same shifter.

Andrew, haven't checked it yet, still hoping to see Ricardon some time, but it looks promising.

I know our rear suspension is totally different, but that does not rule out our strut towers being any different. Anywho, thanks for taking the time to look. And thanks to Ricardon as well.

I know Evo pillowball mounts can fit on lancers but the distance between the two rear towers is most likely different but then again maybe not. It is a different chassis, and the vehicle is wider but it could be the same at that point. Why the curiousity anyway? If someone wants to ask Rhys Millen racing I bet they would have an idea since they work on both vehicles. If I get a chance I will try to call them but I am pretty busy this week.

are you sure? I thought the chassis were the same, but all the suspension components are different Anyway, I'd like to know because there aren't any decent rear strut bars for the Lancer, but plenty of choices for the Evo.

pretty sure they are different. I know some of the measurements are different and they have different chassis codes. They could be the same though but just have different codes. One thing that makes me think that they are different is that some companies like JIC, who deal with evos and lancers, have different part numbers for strut tower bars and doesn't have any applications for frame braces for the lancer. If we can find out otherwise it would be cool but I am not too optimistic.

well, for the front strut tower bars they connect at 3 points on the Evo. Apparently, a front strut tower bar will fit, but the Lancer doesn't have the bracket to attach the middle to... so I've heard.

hopefully someone out there will know more than us about this subject and be able to clear it up.

We also have the cruise control module that has been known to get in the way. That and a different engine with a different intake manifold.

true, but those things aren't in the back, so there's still hope for the rear. Ok, so if RRM doesn't make a rear one soon, I might be talking to Dan about trying the Evo one out.

Fireball tried one that claimed to fit both the Lancer and the Evo to no avail.

The Evo's chassis is not the same as a Lancer chassis...
