Several Error Codes
Hi guys,
I've recently being having a few tranny issues with my Lancer ES (auto transmission). It would jerk into 1st gear, hit 2nd fine, 3rd fine & finally 4th is fine. Sometimes when I'm driving on the freeway, it will jerk and drop to 3rd. I would have to pull over and restart the car for it to work (sometimes it wouldn't).
More recently, it jerks into 1st, 2nd is fine, jerks into 3rd and doesn't even hit 4th! I took to a local mechanice & he hooked up the Snap-on Solus Pro to get me some codes. They came out to: 00086, P0421 (which I already knew about - have to replace the front catalytic converter), P0734 & P0715.
I did some reading on these forums and found that the last one is relatively cheap, the others, I couldn't find anything. The mechanic told me to get the speed sensor from the dealer and get it back to him as soon as possible.
I was wondering if anyone had any other insight into the problem & possible solution.
I appreciate it guys!

If you get code P0715 replace the vss (speed sensor), the P0734 code is for incorrect ratio of fourth gear, which is typically associated with fourth gear slipping, but replacing the sensor is the cheapest thing. If you still have issues check the fluid level and quality of the fluid, if discolored then it needs changing, if metal flakes are present in it then parts are worn and need replacing, possible rebuild/overhaul.
Correction- auto-trans. don't have a vss, they have 2 sensors on the top of the trans., one for input shaft and one for output shaft, each sensor runs about $90 from the dealer.
