clutch

Last week I burned out my clutch. I tool it to the dealer and got a new one, it cost $981 to get a new one. The warranty didn't cover it. I wanted to get a performance one, but the dealer said that if I did, then they warranty for the engine and the tranny would be void. So I got a factory one. But now, the tranny is jacked. It grinds going into first. I have to slam it into gear. Now I have to take it back to the dealer. I just wanted to now if this has happened to anyone else? My car is probably just ****ed up. I have been having a lot of other little problems with the tranny and clutch too. The engine seems to be fine though.

So what you're saying is you don't know how to drive a real car?

If you're stalling out, let up on the clutch slowly. Don't try to slam it.

And if you're really intent on hitting 260hp, how do you plan on competing with an automatic tranny?

They made you pay for a new clutch? I would've pissed in their face. You should have talked mad **** to them dude, how the hell could it be your fault. Mitsubishi should have warrantied it, if you want ill call them and pretend im you and get your money back :P

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they don't warranty the clutch if they can prove signs of excessive wear/abuse...which they could pretty much claim any problem would be at this point due to the newness of the car.

Mr Kopek is correct. Any dealer, provided you asked, would have explained to you that the clutch is not included as a warrantied part. the reason for this is that people do not know how to proerply drive a manual car. my self included. i think the stats on that are that women ride the clutch and men dump it, and very few in betweeners out there. so no, no one is gonna get your money back , and you would not be in the "right" if you went back to complain about paying $900+ for the new clutch and install. just learn to drive a manual better, and take it easy on your drivetrain.

My car has about 20,000 miles on it. I used to drive a manual Jeep Wrangler and never had any problems. I don't treat my car very rough. I can drive manual fine. I never had an automatic. The factory warranty cost me $1000 and then I had to pay almost a grand for the clutch. Now the tranny is screwed up. I haven't given up on my car yet, but I am pissed at the dealer. They messed up my tranny when they worked on the clutch. But I have to keep going back to them because of the warranty. If something happened to my engine I probably couldn't afford to fix it somewhere else.

So, dealers suck, the stock clutch sucks, and first gear is stuck.
My car is almost immpossible to drive because of the dealer.
I want a 4G63 and a 4WD tranny from the Evo VII. That should solve my problem. But oh, that would void the warranty wouldn't it?

i really cant believe you let them screw you like that......i abuse my clutch and brakes so freakin bad its unbelievable that i havent burnt it out yet.....im very good at manual its just i love some nights to go practice quick starts and quick shifting..... my clutch is alittle shaky and my tires are worn out and my brakes were just changes a day ago.....i told them that the brakes were worn down a, they knew it was under warrenty and they replaced the pads for free and told me it must have been a factory problem. My dealer has been great to me, never once tried to pull warrenty bull**** and if i were you id go back and at least try and get them to cover it under warrenty....if they dont, at leats you tried.
