Funny little gear box

Hey,

So I have an '04 Lancer ES and it's 5 speed. I only bought it half a year ago so I'm still kinda new to this tranny.

I am noticing though, that in the last few weeks, the transmission has been acting a little funny. Sometimes I'll be finishing a left turn and going into 3rd gear and I'll have actually gone into 1st gear, even though I've been checking to make sure I don't.

I also, sometimes am not able to place the stick into either 1st or 3rd but instead seem to hit the separator in between them and I have to unclutch in neutral in order to move into either gear again.

I'm trying to think what could be causing this. I've recently had the gear oil replaced. I bought 80w-90 for it. I know the books say to use 75w-90 or 75w-85 but my mechanic told me it should be ok.

Any thoughts?

There are two bushings under the hood that are made of rubber that might be fairly worn. Under the center console around the shifter base there are more but those should be fine. If the under hood bushings are fine or if you replace, either way, them spray some Teflon or silicon lubricant on them.

It could also be worn out motor or transmission mounts. There are 4 total on the car and that might explain the missed shifts while turning.

I'll take this to my mechanic and we'll open up the bushings and take a look. Thanks.

So I went to my mechanic, and he checked over all the bushings and none looked bad to either of us.

It did however happen again and I noticed something further.

It seems to me that when I shift into first and then second, my method of shifting into third is to pull the shifter to neutral height and then release it for a moment so it returns naturally to the center and then I push it forward so it slides into third and this seems to be my issue. When I bring it back to neutral height and release, it is not always returning back to the center position and this now seems to be why it doesn't push forward into third but goes into first instead, it seems to me that it's not returning to the center across when it's warmed up.

So any ideas what could be causing that?
