The 02-03 has it built in with the internal slave. Only the 04-07 lancers have a separate throw out bearing (pilot).

the TOB (clutch release bearing) and the pilot bearing are two different things...the pilot bearing or bushing simply ensures the the transmission input shaft is concentric with the crankshaft and flywheel, it has nothing to do with the clutch...

Cranswick, I know the throwout is attached to the fork, it is probably around 3". But is there a traditional pilot bearing? When I called Mitsubishi, the parts guy said there wasn't a pilot bearing. The pilot bearing I am trying to refer to would be around 1" in diameter, and sit in the middle of the flywheel

you may not have one on your particular year/trim...mine has one, but it's called a crankshaft bushing...it goes normally goes on in the center of the flywheel, lots of cars don't have them.

I will find out for you, but I don't recall there being one when I did the clutch on my 03.

checked ASA, no sign of a pilot bearing on the CS6A lancer

ok thanks....

yeah, when I called the dealership parts dept, he put me on hold, came back, and said that the mechanics said there isn't one, and that was after he searched using the last 8 of my VIN as well

Front wheel drive cars don't have pilot bearings. They exist to support the much longer input shaft on a longitudinal RWD application.
