The dealer told me that my Exedy twin disc clutch for my 05 evo MR doesnt use a pilot bearing. Is he feeding me BS?

 

its gotta have a pilot bearing

 

He is correct, your car does not use a pilot bearing. The transmission shaft is not long enough to utilize one.

So, my 06 SE is displaying symptoms of a pilot bearing that is failed or under-greased, if there is no pilot bearing wtf is wrong with it? When engaging first gear at an average speed it makes this mid-high whining sound. Doesn't happen when it is let out fast or very slow, much more likely when engaging up a hill (when there is feedback to the transmission basically), and only happens in first gear. What else could that be if not the pilot bearing?

 

Well, how much have you been digging in your engine bay? It's possible there is a bolt missing, or something of that sort thats throwing the clutch off.
