Transmission Blew?

So I was driving home the other night, very slow, 10mph or less and I hear this clanging metal noise in the front of the vehicle like I ran over a piece of metal. I pulled over looked on the road, nothing. looked under car, nothing. Nothing seemed out of place. About 2 minutes later, a major leak starts to happen from under the engine. Never smelled it before but it had a certain odor.

Got back in the car to fully park it in a spot, I knew at this point I couldnt drive it.
Went to put it in reverse to straighten the car out, wouldnt go anywhere. Tried drive,
moved up a few inches and heard more metal noises. I stopped there.

Had the car towed to my house because I am not sure where to take it to, Mitsu dealership or a transmission shop.

When the guy was unloading the lancer from the tow truck ( he had a full flat bed) the car began to coast down a bit while it was in Park. So that wasnt good at all.

Checked the ATF resevior (sp?) and it was empty, Im guessing whatever happened, the ATF got dumped out.

I have a CVT. 106k on the car. No mechanical repairs ever.

Anything I can do to see what is wrong with it? Could it be a bad axle? Could the whole transmission be shot?

Any ideas on cost?

I also have a video of it I could upload if that would help?

Thanks in advance!!

The hole is going out of the case!

Are there any other vehicles out there that share the same cvt that I could swap with?

Wow this freaks me out. My 2010 GTS is at 98k miles with absolutely zero problems to speak of so far. It seems like these CVT's tend to fail sooner than normal transmissions... Good Luck, hopefully you figure it out soon.

late to the show but its definitely not an axle.

If there is no cvt fluid on the dip stick then it dumped all the fluid somehow. If there is no physical damage on the bottom of the cvt then it probably blew a gasket.

Since the car moved even in park it's likely the cvt is pooched. A new cvt is 4-5 grand, cheaper if used and labor may be half the cost of the tranny

Since the hole is coming out of the case, the whole thing is done. I did see new cvts are expensive!! I dont want to put a new one in since the car is already 10 years old...and a new cvt would be close to what the car is worth....blah.

I did find one for 1800 bucks in Pittsburgh PA, which is 2 hours away... getting it installed would take some time...and money though.

Thanks for all the replies...!!
