I was curious about the 2K startup thing too... Mine starts up at 2K in cold weather, and then drops all the way to 1K (normal) given time to warm up, or if driven for a bit. It's almost like a built in warm-up timer....

*shrug* mine is at 2k in cold weather and starts at 900 or so in normal weather.. I thought it was something they had programmed into the ecu to warm the block up prior to driving.. *shrug*

Steering column or P/S assembly?

If the latter, just tighten the belt. apply pressure from your thumb on the belt. If it feels like your thumb is about to break off, it's tight enough.

As for high idle in cold weather, normal. In hot weather, do you have an intake or messed with the throttle cable?

mitsubishi does not have a adjustable lifter like other cars, they have what they refer to as a hydrolic lash adjuster. i have had 3 mitsu's now and they usally run about 15 each at mitsu service department. real easy to swap out. i highly recomend changing all of them at the same time. you can tell wich one is bad by simply looking at bottom of it and if it looks like its been hammered on its the bad one
