I think your screwed on getting it repaired unless you want to spend the money to replace the entire trunk and rear of the car. I'd get as much money from it as i could and get something else cause its going to cost a lot to fix that. Nice matching coat hancer though.

Thank you, and yes I thought it was only fitting to use yellow coathangers when transporting clothes in the Lancer. I also had my livingroom subwoofer in the trunk because I was bringing it to my new house and it was absolutely shattered. The other day I went to put on a suit jacket that was in there as well and when I looked in the mirror there was a huge chunk missing out of the side that I never noticed

If fixable I would rather spend $5000 (give or take) to do so rather than buying a new car.

I hate to break it to you, but with both quarter panels, rear bumper, trunk and all the work hours/paint, it will be a LOT more than 5K. My advice would be to part the thing out and then sell the remaining parts for scrap metal. Check the re-sale value of your car becuse the amount of money you would invest in fixing it would not be worth it. This is unless you can find salvage lancers and pull their parts off.

I HOPE THIS IS NOT THE CASE, but I think it might be.

Well that's what I asked for - the straight truth, or at least people's opinions. What I will do next is take it to a better shop, get a list of all the parts they will need and price them/aquire them myself, then hopefully derive a final quotation around what I'm hoping to pay. I actually think it would be LESS of a hassle than parting it out, factoring in kaaping track of what everyone wants, setting up times/appointments, actually taking the stuff off the car (which can be hard with certain parts), and then finding a place to put the skeleton once everyone's done with it - which may end up costing me money anyways. Plus it's still got my plates and everything on it - I just took off the insurance for obvious reasons.

..also there's a few fairly large scrap yards around my area that I've been to for replacement parts for my old car..hopefully someone else had the opposite crash impact as me (well not HOPEfully but U know what I mean) and I can get some rear end parts.

I know that there's a 2004 lancer ES in a scrap yard somewhere in ontario, heavy front end damage. rear is fine.might not match perfectly, but it'd probly fit.

Hmm, as far as I know the rear end's are a pretty close fit - but I'd wonder about the taillights etc. But since I'd be replacing EVERYTHING I may end up w. a conversion of some sort.. Thank you for your help tho, I'll look into finding it.

Thank you I appreciate all the positive comments. They've confirmed the frame stayed completely straight - what are the odds of that

I think drucea and PGD are right on the money.

BTW, I thought I could be the first smartass to comment on the coat hanger, but it looks like I should have posted it days ago.

i added up about $3400 for parts on the visible damage, about $2400 for labor at $46/hr (what we charge at the body shop i work at) and i wouldnt say n e thing less the $1000-$1500 in paintwork. i would sell what u can salvage and stop drivin in the snow

the shop that did my front end replaced: pass 1/4 panel, hood, bumper, lip, headlight, grill, one rim and did some frame straightening. Grand total was close to $7200 two years ago. I'd call yours an official total.

That rear quarterpanel stretches all the way to the front (as we all well know). Those are next to impossible to replace. Trunk damage no doubt. Which may mean damage to the strut housings I'd bet there IS frame damage, but that shop wasn't willing to deal with it.
Paint alone would be a nightmare, but this is a LOT of damage.

sorry to see it. Good luck.

it could be fixed, but you are probably better off just replacing it. it doesnt look to be in too good of condition.
