I was just saying that either way, diconnecting the ecu or not, is valid....but to be on the safe side I would. And who doesn't know how to disconnect the battery now?

I wasn't implying that you didn't know how to disconnect the battery.

after disconnecting my battery the car doesnt shift out of 3rd (automatic) and it idles at about 2100. after taking it to mitsu the guy had a coronary and called me a bunch of names. then he said he couldnt fix my car until i put the catalytic converter back on it. im just waiting for the engine to explode now.

If you look under your hood, there'll be a small sticker indicating base timing and base idle. It should say that the idle should fall within +/- 100 RPM of 700 RPM. 900 would be a high idle.

Actually the ecu reads the change in what ever bolt on you added in minutes. there's no need to reset! and sometimes resetting is not the best thing for your ecu, because you can get rough idle and other problem... that's why if you drive your car aggressively for 10 or so minutes you will notice your car being more aggressive(hp) after you stop driving rough...

also when you bolt on a short ram intake you really don't gain much power, you actually lose hp and low end torque(seen the dyno a few times), < your stock air box is much better. if you have a CAI < you gain about 3hp...

just wanted to clear that out!

like I said the ECU adapts to your modification quick so you really don't need to reset... anyway resetting out the blue is not going to give you any kind of power!

If you want power from you ECU you need to swap it for a performance ecu or from another Mitsu* more powerful... for example my car a year ago was 115hp stock, i change the Intake, Headers and Exhaust- upgraded the pulley, fuel pump(2geclipse)put a 50shot of NEX, FPR and ECU (3.5V6 montero) and dynode at 178.8hp at the wheels.< thats before i even change my cams. now I'm about to swap my engine to a dohc 2.0 mivec from a FTO in Japan.<260+ hp...

also if your looking for performance you might want to look into the p-chip, this mod for $300 could gain about 30-40Hp< there's alot of (jetta's and golf's) getting it done. what this does is alters the way your ecu thinks and changes the car hp, tourque, air and fuel curve...
