Clutch Problem?

I drive a 2002 Lancer OZ with about 48k on it. I bought this car about 2 months ago. My problem is that everytime I down shift to accelerate or just lay on the throttle my car jumps in RPM's, say from 3,500 - 5,000 and goes no where. (as if i was depressing the clutch) After it jumps in RPM's it slowly decreases in RPM's and accelerates. I have already taken it back to the dealership, and the mechanic there claims there is no problem. I think that the clutch either needs replaced or adjusted. Any other ideas?

I did search this, didn't find anything too helpful.

Thanks for your time

It's that new recall problem. The problem isn't mechanical, it's in your ECU, whatever reflash your dealer causes the problem.

I think that's something else. my car does idle high, but it soon lowers. The problem in my situation is that it's un-responsive, if i accelerate hard it does nothing.

Why do you think it's a clutch problem? I think if it would be because of the clutch it would happen all the time.

I have always thought that it was a clutch problem.
For one, it has that distinct rubber burning smell, like when you would slam on the brakes.
Two it has progressivly gotten worse.
And just today I could not get it to go into reverse.
