Exclamation Shaky Driving ?

I am not sure if any one else notices this, or what . .. but i was raeding about top US lancer speeds the other day, and i was hearing of like 120mph and such, i was on a strait road and said why not try it, i got up to around 80mph when the steering wheel got really shaky and when i got up to 100mph it was really bad so i just slowed down.

any one know why this is happening?

thanks

p.s. How could i fix this?

Might need to balance your tires and wheels. I had a similar problem with my car shaking and jerking randomly a lot more than normal around 80mph until I got them balanced.

One reason is the stock tires are crap and are not meant for really high speeds.

Other reasons - Out of balance wheel (most likely), or a bent rim(not as likely)

Solutions- 1. Buy new tires and wheels (great 1st mod)
2. Get your wheels balanced, and an alignment check just for good measure.

Hope this helped.

I have to disagree about the stock tires being crap. With the stock rims and tires (yokos) I've easily run at 100 with no shimmy or vibration. I've also routinely out cornered supposedly superior cars. Sounds like a balance problem or a damaged suspension.

He's got an ES if you look next to his post. That means he's got 14" steel rims with hubcaps.

well i dont know if this can happen with the 14" steel rims, but on the oz rims the large "rim" area behind the spokes can collect large amounts of dirt/snow/ice etc.. when this happens, it tends to happen on one side only which will almost always cause a shaking of some measure at higher speeds. Make sure there is no trapped crud on the inside of your wheels. Ive cleaned mine out more than once and fixed this problem.

That can happen on any wheels - it's effectively the same thing as a balance issue. Consider how much of a different those tiny metal clips they put on your rim to balance make such a huge difference and compare that to the amount of mud you can collect.

Oops, missed that in his original post. Yeah, that would make a big difference.
