Weird noise, and it's not the usual squeak
Went back with Royal Purple gear lube and it isn't as bad anymore
Still makes funny funky sounds, but it quieter and doesn't slip as much. Is the TOB something someone can do in his backyard, or are there any speciality tools needed?

Well... here's the latest update.
No more clutch
Talked with a friend over the weekend and we came to this conclusion.
When I first refilled the tranny with Castrol I overfilled by about 3/4 of a quart. That would have caused higher than usual pressure in the tranny oil system busting a seal, and finnaly allowing oil to get in the "clutch chamber". The slippage started right after I overfilled the tranny so that makes sense.
On top of oil leaking on the clutch, I also had oil leaking everywhere under the car. I lost over 3 quarts of tranny lube in less than 2 weeks. Near the end, other than the first gear not wanting to get in, the car ran awesome. No weird noise, no weird grind or anything. Just the first gear that wouldn't go in unless I geared 2nd then 1st.
Stopped for a traffic light, when to engage first gear and boom(no actual sound, just the expression). I had no more feel in the clutch pedal. Just a dead pedal under the feet. I was able to drive the car shifting gears without clutch, which gives me little hope that the tranny is still somewhat good, but now I have to open up the b!tch and see what the hell happened in there.
Stay posted, I'll keep you updated. If you have any ideas of what went wrong, or what happened, feel free to share

3 and a half months later... we took the tranny appart yesterday.
The throw out bearing was shreded to peices, the slave cylinder leaked, the clutch housing "walls" have a nice thick coat of tranny oil all over, the clutch is soaked in tranny oil. At that point, we were still happy and somewhat smilling. But then we noticed the input shaft was at a weird angle so we look at it more closely to find the input shaft bearing is also shreded.
Looks like the tranny needs a rebuild, or I need to find a cheap one asap

i think my car may have the same issue. the thing is, i have a brand new clutch, flywheel, TOB, and redline gear oil at the exact amount. just started doing it tonight while car was idleing. had it installed for a few months now, but i dont have more than 20 miles on this setup. theres a ticking noise while in neutral but when i engage the clutch it goes away. any suggestions?
I got grinding noise when I release my clutch and push in gas. I was told to change my TOB because I put in ACT clutch and pressure plate but forgot to replace the bearing (stupid me). On top of that need to check my lube
i posted this in the tranny tech forum as well and i have a used trans on the way. just changed the fluid yesterday and it has gotten worse on the grinding sound.
"only reason im looking is because mine has been acting up lately and i have narrowed it down to 3 possible things all in which will be a pain. it could be input shaft bearing, the bearing on the inside of the shaft or it could be just gear mesh, but for some time now ive had grinding issues going into 3rd, and as of late it has gotten worse and now the constant grinding noise."
when i filled my trans yesterday i know for a fact that i didnt overfill it and when we(my friend and i) did my clutch we didnt over fill it as well. i put in a new clutch at 104,000 and i now have 124,600 on the car, and in the last 2 weeks is when i got the grinding noise and the last 10,000 miles or so its been hard shifting into third. but the other thing as well is it is spring here in wisconsin and just came out of a hard winter again, so i thought that the hard shifting was due to the cold.

i got mine from ebay for $285 and I did it myself. So it was cheap. Sounds like something came loose in your clutch or is going bad. The clutch was an oem exeddy disc type clutch for an 02 oz rally.
