My Clutch!!!

Alright... so i just got my '02 oz rally a few weeks ago and it has a bunch of aftermarket stuff. Got my turbo, greddy exhaust, front mount intercooler and piping, lowering springs etc. anyway... i planned to go up to indiana to see my buddy and of course show off my new car , but the crap went down. I'm on the freeway like 10 minutes from my house and all of a sudden the gears and stuff would not shift, hit the gas and all the car would do it rev real high and blow off... so i had it towed to a shop. i'm thinking probably a clutch and flywheel replacement... any suggestions on brand for performance??

the turbo is a Mitsubishi oil and liquid cooled T28... the boost is set at 7psi. it moves real good, but i had my mechanic check it out today and he said that it was going to cost like 1.5gs by the time it was all said and done with new bearings, clutch plate, pressure plate, etc. you think any other crap is going to go wrong? it cant be throwing that kind of money into this car every weekend!

Well, I'd assume that you only had a stock clutch before the turbo and after till this... it was bound to happen. Looks at what Works has to offer !

I thought Exedy was the stock? If he said he'd used Exedy as the replacement, it probably won't be any upgrade from what you already had-just newer. Go with Works or Zoom, need to double check Zoom though.

ya he said that the exedy on that he was putting on was the more high performance of the 2 stock ones and was the best that he could find around here for the lancer since the clutch is a smaller size. should be done tomorrow, i'll let you know how it is... i'm sure it will be better, I'm just hoping i'm not gonna break something else!

I don't think there really is a stock performance clutch for our cars, only real option is aftermarket. My guess is he put a stock clutch on there, especially if it's exedy. Be prepared to blow it again soon, turbo and weak clutches don't get along.

do you have a link to a performance clutch that I can put in there? i searched around and called a few places... one of the places said that they don't make the performance one for the oz one anymore because the people that maufactured the parts no longer were making that part...

If you don't put in an aftermarket clutch you're going to be throwing away the 1500 you just spent.

Exactly! Don't just take the shops word on it. Does Exedy even make a stage 1/2/3 clutch for our lancers? Thought only the stock replacement was Exedy. Look at Zoom or Works.

just got off the phone with my mechanic and he said that he has the thing all back together with the higher performance exedy one in there. he said that it caught well, but he also said that if i'm racing around pushing the car with high rpms that it doesn't really matter what clutch i get because you see guys at the track burn up a clutch in one run... i dunno... i guess i'll wait it out and see how it runs and here in ohio (good old lake county) we have this thing called an e-check... ya i'm going to have fun trying to pass that with how rich the car runs!
