I'm not sure what the problem is, and I searched the forum a little bit and I would appreciate some help.

Here's the problem. I own a 2002 Lancer OZ with a little over 51k miles. After I dropped my GF off at her house I was driving home, and the tank was a little over a quarter. When I got home, the fuel light was on and the needle was very low. The driver was like 3 miles home. When I started my car this morning, the needle was dead, it was past Empty and the light was on like it was last night before I shut the car off. I went to the gas station and filled it her, it only filled 8 gallons. That means there was about 4-5 gallons left right? Since the Tank is 13.2 gallons? Why was the fuel gauge reading low? It's been reading low since I've bought it, and whenever I fill up my tank when its low its usually only 8 gallons max. Is there a problem that would be making my fuel gauge read low for some reason? Any ideas?

My gauge doesn't drop till im at about 70 miles too. It stays at F until 70 miles, then drops to about a little over 3/4. I don't know what the problem is. Should I take it to a shop? Does anyone have any advice?

 

Anyone have an idea?
