Intake Help
Ok... I was bored and started messing with my intake. I was going to build a new one but think I mess it up before I could. You know the honey cone thing in the MAF. I poked it out. I thought it would give it better air flow. But now it wont idle. I died twice already. It will be fine then it will drop down to 250 or so then up to 1200 . This is really bad.. .Please help
you made a big mistake there man. That honeycomb actually helps to direct the flow over the sensor. Now you have no direction so the sensor is getting mixed flows/signals. My advice see if you can get some material similiar to it... don't even know where to begin at quessing where to get it. Maybe you can hit the junkyard and get a MAS off another car, 2000 and up, then mod its honeycomb to fit? Truely you are in a tight spot!
maybe you should learn a little about what you are doing, before goin an pokin or removing things that are there for a reason. i'm with boe, goto a salvage yard and try and find a new mas. research first, then improve!
whatever you do, please do not replace any material into the stock maf sensor as you can risk killing a few pistons as well if a partical gets sucked into it. your best bet is to go to the dealer (or junk yard if there is a wrecked lancer there) and get a nother complete maf sensor, and next time, please ask someone before you start something. this is the primary reason why this forum is avaliable.
Edit: After you do find a new maf sensor, please disconnect the negitave off of the battery. leave it disconnected for 5 mins, then reconnect and start the car. let the car idel for 15 - 20 mins, then take it for a quick ride around the block to set the ecu to you normal adaptivity.

I feel for ya...but sometimes it takes learning the hard way. The way I see it you have 2 choices:
1) Order a new MAF from
(don't try to replace the material inside) Just get a new one
2) Or run without the MAF but you'll need aftermarket ECU. standalone or piggyback is up to you.
I give ya kudos for trying to make stuff yourself but like others have said....do a little bit of homework first. As you have learned it will save you on money and headaches
