Post car died while driving and wont start again

i was driving at around 55 and pressed the clutch in to come to a stop and the car shut off..... i came to a stop and tried to start it again... and it fired up but had a crappy idle... i accelerated and in high rpms it ran fine.. well i pressed the clutch in again and it did it again.... it hasent started started again...

the starter is fine the motor turns over but it wont crank... timing belt is in tack and has tension... its getting gas... i pulled the plugs out and #4 cylinder had gas around the bottom of the plug...the rest are fine .. i tested the 2 wires it has and it seemed that cylinder 4 wasent getting fire... but would that make the car not start....

no cel's.. and i had no warning that it was gonna die the first time...
i had the dealership say it could be my coolent temp sensor or crank position sensor... but im stumped idk y i wont start... the motor turns over but its like it dont have fire... i know it has fire in at least 2 cylinders.. and no1 around here can tell me how to test the coils..

i took out the plugs and coils and wires .. connected the wires and coils to the plugs and wired them together and grounded them... turned the motor over and fire came from the 3 and 4 cylinders... so i switched the coils to see if the coil was bad for the 1&2 cylinders and turned it over again and still i only got fire from 3&4...
so my only guess is the crank sensor... but idk.. could it be the coolent temp sensor.. i heard that the car has a fail safe system where if it over heats it shuts off the car and or 2 cylinders... so if the coolent temp sensor is bad it could be sayin the car is over heating.... idk guys i need help..

you should be able to test the coils at autozone or the east coast equivalent. what do your plugs look like? have you checked the vacuum system?

More then likely the engine wouldnt start with at least one cylinder not firing. I would check all the electrical connections leading into the coil.
It sounds like you are on the right track just keeping tracing the problem further.

If your engine was in a fail safe mode you would get a SES.

In a 4 cyl, one cyl not getting fire could be enough to stall the car. +1 For Petey's suggestions.

What mods have you done (engine/drivetrain related- I don't care about teh bling0rz or a fartcan )

If you know that there is no power getting to the coil for cylinders 1&2, and you know it is not the coil (b/c you said you swapped them and the same cylinders were causing the problem), then you should tracing the reason why no electricity is getting to that coil.

i just clicked 120k.... the only thing i could come up with is the crank or cam sensor.. all connections are good leading to the coil and wires are in one piece.... no vacum hoses broken or cracked...

im having no problems with gettin fuel to the motor... i just took out all the plugs and cleaned them and let the unspent fuel in the cylinder evaporate... and put it all back together and tried it again... it acted like it wanted to start but didnt... it was like putt putt die... then back to just turnin over with no fire....
i even reset the computer system.... and nothing
